OUR MISSION STATEMENT

live different.

Our mission statement is short, simple, and sweet. It’s simply, live different.” It may be succinct, but it has tremendous ramifications. It means we don’t approach following Jesus like the rest of “churchianity.” It also means that our lives will reflect this difference. Our mission is that when people join us on the journey towards Jesus at CalvaryMac, their lives will be transformed as a result. They won’t just hear about Jesus, or experience emotion, but instead their lives will be distinct from the rest of culture because they choose to live different.

We exist to help people…
  • …drive different.
  • …spend different.
  • …see different.
  • …parent different.
  • …plan different.
  • …give different.
  • …choose different.

Get the idea? We aren’t about just going to church. We’re about living different in every aspect of life. As we live different we make a difference by impacting our culture, and the world.

For more about what makes us Calvary Chapel unique, check out what makes us different below.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

WE TEACH GOD'S WORD; NOT TOPICS.

The priority of God's Word over a speaker's opinion.

VERSE BY VERSE, CHAPTER BY CHAPTER, BOOK BY BOOK.

The teaching at many churches involves a teacher coming up with a topic, and then finding verses to match what they want to say. That's not us. Instead, we teach verse by verse, chapter by chapter allowing God's Word to speak. The passage determines the topic and the teacher studies that passage to present the truth of that part of scripture in the most relevant, creative, and engaging way possible.

WE BUILD UP; NOT BEAT DOWN.

We've all need grace. We receive it from God, so we need to give it to others.

GET GRACE; GIVE GRACE.

We are all on a journey on the road of life. Non of us are prefect. In fact, all of us have experienced bumps in the road, wrong turns, and crashes. That's why God gives us grace through Jesus. His sacrifice on the cross paid the penalty for all of our sins. Because we have been given so much grace we are intentional about giving grace to others.

WE PUT THE SPOTLIGHT ON JESUS; NOT OURSELVES.

We want to take people to Jesus, not build a crowd around us.

THE CENTRALITY OF JESUS

Churches can be a magnet for people looking for attention. After all, any church has opportunities to shine whether its with music, teaching, art, opinions, or in community service. At CalvaryMac we want to make sure its not about us; but rather about Jesus. We want to carefully measure our motives to makes sure we're lifting Jesus up, not ourselves. We want the spotlight to be on Him; not us.

WE ARE UNITED IN JESUS; NOT DIVIDED BY THEOLOGY.

Crystal clear on essentials; free to disagree on non-essentials.

BALANCED THEOLOGY

At CalvaryMac we desire not to divide God's people over non-essential issues. An example are gifts of the Holy Spirit. We don't take a typical Pentecostal view, nor do we take a typical Baptist view. Instead of taking a dogmatic position on non-essentials, we recognize the Scriptural validity of both sides of a debate and avoid excluding or favoring those in one camp over the other.

WE PRIORITIZE PASSING FAITH ON TO THE NEXT GENERATION.

We mobilize resources and older generations to invest in the next generation.

REACHING THE NEXT GENERATION WITH THE WONDER OF JESUS.

We value kids and teenagers. Thus, at CalvaryMac we mobilize ministries and resources designed to engage young people with the truth of God's Word. We also realize that students live within a family system. Thus, we don't just reach students, but we come alongside parents and grandparents to enable them to fulfill their God-given calling of passion on a faith in God.

WE ARE INTENTIONAL; NOT ACCIDENTAL.

``My walk with Jesus is my own responsibility.``

COUNT THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP.

One of the most unique and important characteristics of CalvaryMac is intentionality. Too often people feel dependent upon a pastor, or a church for their walk with God. We believe that intentional planning is not only an incredible tool for growth, but it enables people to own their faith. Thus, we encourage people to plan for how they will spend time with God, how they will parent, work, spend, serve, etc...

WE USE DYNAMITE; NOT FIREWORKS

Fireworks draws a crowd; but dynamite leads to treasure.

``FOR YOU WILL RECEIVE POWER...``

Everyone loves fireworks. They never fail to draw a crowd. But if your mining for gold; fireworks can't get the job done. You need to blast using dynamite. The Greek word for ``power`` in Acts 1:8 is ``Dunamis`` which is where we get the word ``dynamite.`` At CalvaryMac we don't want to build a church by drawing a crowd with anything but the Lord's ``Dynamite`` transforming people's lives.

WE ARE EMPOWERED BY THE SPIRIT; NOT WILL-POWER.

Will power is never strong enough.

EMPOWERED BY THE SPIRIT

People tend to make the same mistakes over and over again. Often they struggle with the same destructive habits, patterns, and problems. Why? Often the primary source of power we use to overcome sin is ``will-power.`` Will power isn't strong enough. At CalvaryMac we want people to learn to live ``empowered by the Spirit`` so that they can move past the never-ending struggles.

WE ARE LED BY THE LORD; NOT BY COMMITTEE.

Pastor led; board accountable.

A PASTOR RULED BY THE LORD AND AIDED BY ELDERS.

Americans love a good vote. After all, we are a republic ruled by democracy. But the Kingdom of God is not a ``majority rules`` government. For our model of church government we look to Moses seeking the Lord and leading the Israelites. Thus, we believe God's model is the the pastor is ruled by the Lord and aided by the Elders to discover the mind and will of Jesus for His church.

WE ARE ENGAGED IN CULTURE; NOT ALONE ON AN ISLAND.

Building bridges in culture not building walls.

``I HAVE BECOME ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN.``—Paul

Over the past 30 years, many have been alienated by what we call ``churchianity.`` What's churchianity? Its those legalistic traditions churches placed as a burden on people's backs that have turned people away from God. At CalvaryMac, we take a different approach. We intentionally engage culture remove any barrier so that people can discover the transformative truth of God's Word.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE SCRIPTURES

We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error and the infallible rule of faith and practice. The Word of God is the foundation upon which the church operates and is the basis for which the church is governed. We believe that the Word of God supersedes any earthly law that is contrary to the Holy Scriptures (Isaiah 28:13; Nehemiah 8:8; John 17:17; II Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; I Peter 1:23-25; II Peter 1:3-4, 21).

THE TRINITY

We believe that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:8, 48:16; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30; Hebrews 1:3).

  • GOD THE FATHER
We believe in the person of God the Father, an infinite, eternal, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2, 102:27; John 3:16, 4:24; I Timothy 1:17; Titus 1:3).

  • GOD THE SON
We believe in the person of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, his substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth (Isaiah 7:14; Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:23; Mark 16:19; Luke 1:34-35; John 1:1-2, 8:58,11:25; I Corinthians 15:3-4; I Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 1:8; I John 1:2; Revelation 1:8).

  • GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit, Who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ (John 16:8-11; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26, 15:13,16; II Corinthians 3:18; Hebrews 9:14). We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide (John 16:13, 14:16-17, 16:8-11; Romans 8:26). We believe in the Baptism with the Holy Spirit as a distinct and separate experience to that of regeneration, occurring either subsequent to or simultaneous with salvation, evidenced by a greater dynamic in the Christian’s life, enabling that person to be a bold and more effective witness. The supreme evidence of the Spirit-filled life is the fruit of the Spirit, love. We believe in the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit in regard to the exercise of all biblical gifts of the Holy Spirit according to the instructions given to us (I Corinthians 12-14).

SIN

We believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice, falling short of God’s standard and breaking His commandments – and therefore are under God’s righteous judgment. Yet, God saves and gives new life to all who come to Him in repentance and faith, trusting in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. At the cross, Jesus Christ died in our place as our substitute, absorbing God’s wrath that should have come upon us. Because Jesus died for the sins of the world the invitation to believe is open to all, and whoever desires may come unto Jesus for new life and the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 11:28; John 3:16; Acts 3:19, 20:21; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1-3, 8-9; I John 2:2; Revelation 22:17).

PASTORAL LEADERSHIP IN THE CHURCH

We believe in the pattern and principle of male leadership and responsibility in both the home and the church, according to the sacrificial example of Jesus. We believe this limits the roles of pastoral leadership and doctrinal authority to qualified men (I Corinthians 11:1-12; I Timothy 2:1-15). We believe in the universal church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the head and all who are born again are a part of the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 4:15-16).

ORDINANCES

We believe that the Lord, Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances for the church: the full-immersion water baptism of believers and the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 28:19; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:38; I Corinthians 11:23-26).

HEAVEN AND HELL

We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord. Those who reject Jesus’ free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from the Lord (Psalm 9:17; Matthew 5:3, 5:22, 18:9, 25:31-34; Mark 9:42-49; Luke 12:5; John 3:18; Hebrews 12:23; I Peter 1:4; Revelation 14:10-11, 20:11-15).

MARRIAGE

We believe that God created man and that He created them male and female. As such, He created them different so as to complement and complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. Therefore, we perform marriages in accordance with the Bible consistent with the Old and New Testament (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; John 4:16-18; Romans 1:18-32; I Corinthians 5:11, 6:9-11,18-20, 7:1-3,8-9; Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 5:3-7; I Timothy 1:9-11).
