Calvary Chapel of McMinnville Historical Timeline

  • September 1, 1974 - First church services of McMinnville Christian Center were held at the Dante home (now the old church building), led by Pastor Bill Rose
  • September 4, 1974 - Legal paperwork was filed to establish McMinnville Christian Center as an official non-profit corporation
  • Fall 1974 - Sunday meetings moved to VFW Hall, and then Grange Hall
  • Early 1975 - Rented a house at 327 E 5th St. for office space and group small meetings
  • 1978 - Began holding Sunday services at the "New Junior High" (now Patton Middle school), pursued the purchase of the "Old Junior High" (now Shari's and strip mall)
  • 1979 - Bought the Dante home and 0.5 acres, moved the offices and small meetings from downtown
  • 1980 - Bought the rest of the 5 acre site, partly funded by $73,000 mortgage at 22% interest!
  • 1982 - Poured foundation for the new building
  • 1983 - Construction of the new building halted
  • 1983-1984 - Lead Pastor transition from Bill Rose to Ron Smith, beginning of Calvary Chapel affiliation
  • Late 80's - Lots of remodeling projects to maximize use of the old building
  • 1992 - Began working with architect to design a new building on the 1982 foundation
  • 1993 - First Annual Youth Group Bike Trip
  • 1995 - Name legally changed to Calvary Chapel of McMinnville
  • 1998 - Started construction of new building on 1982 foundation, bought lot on Cypress for driveway access
  • 2000 - New building dedicated
  • 2003 - KKJC-LP FM went on the air at 96.3FM
  • 2006 - Dave and Rayma Barnhart planted a church in Perm, Russia
  • 2008 - Thom and Cindy Carden planted Calvary West Valley in Sheridan, OR
  • 2013 - Started planning for second phase of new building
  • 2015 - Started construction on second phase of new building
  • 2017 - Completed construction on second phase of new building (5 new classrooms upstairs, large fellowship hall and commercial kitchen downstairs)
  • 2018 - Lead Pastor transition from Ron Smith to Brian Carlson
  • 2023 - Lead Pastor transition from Brian Carlson to Zach Lamberson
